Backyard Beautification

We put up our play set about a year and a half ago. Not quite sure what to put underneath it, we went back and forth between different material. This week Aaron and I finally decided on hog fuel. The city puts it in the park near our house. It is so nice and fluffy and hopefully we won't have splinters.

Our backyard has been in need of some TLC. Since Hunter's diagnosis it has been put on the back burner somewhat, until yesterday that is.

We ordered 11 yards of material to beautify our backyard and make it so the kids could play on the play set even when the yard is swamp-like from all the rain.
Pretty pathetic backyard, huh?

Our two piles of bark.

Gettin' done.

Gavin was such a big help. He was out there shoveling and pushin' loads in the wheel barrow. Gretchen was helpful also in spreading and helping sweep the piles. Harrison and Graham also helped with spreading. It was a family affair. If Hunter had more strength he would have been out there, I'm sure.

The finished product. We are so happy with how the backyard has been transformed.

The kids have already been spending as much time out there that they can. Except when it has started to rain. But even then when does a little rain stop an Oregonian.
It is definitely a work in progress with the backyard. The soil we were so blessed with is clay. Not much likes to grow in it, so we have been amending the soil more and more each year that we live here. Five years later we're getting closer. What a satisfying feeling to have this looking so good.
You might be wondering if I'm nesting with our baby coming in 5-6 weeks. Yeah maybe. We know that it will be awhile after we have the baby before more of these projects get done. So we are doing our best to get them done now.

Looks great! Our bark mulch was gone within a month...due to Grant's endless digging and pushing with trucks :)
